Gurney Drive Penang!
The most expensive apartments, high class condos, shopping centres (there's going to be a new one coming soon, Paragon), hotels, mansions, etc are situated around that area. Every weekend at peak hours, there will be a huge traffic jam around that area because of our own Gurney Plaza. Branded goods are sold there. Teenagers like to lepak there. Rich lao yis and uncles like to go there and buy expensive stuff to show off to people that they're rich (come to think of it, that's why they buy expensive things right? because people are stupid enough to admire them). You know how much is the rent for one shoplot in Gurney Plaza? Some shops come in and out simply because they can't afford the high rent.
High class condos such as The Regency is BIG. HUGE. G Hotel which is next to Gurney Plaza is expensive I've never even been inside before. Coffee shops, kopitiams, restaurants which are facing the sea charge customers unreasonable prices just simply because that's Gurney Drive. I remember I've been to one. Mr. Pot? Not worth it. The first highrise apartment in Penang was even built there! So, would-be tourists of Penang or whoever unlucky and innocent people who stumble upon this blog of mine, read until here. Please stop. I don't want to be the one to blame for failing the tourist industry.
**********************************************
Fellow people of Penang. I think that we have to take immediate action. But this is what we are pround of:
Look at the rubbish stuck between the rocks! Look at how muddy the water is! What happened to the turquoise colour of the ocean? I am really disappointed! This is supposed to be a site of tourist attraction! Why would tourists want to come to Malaysia if they have this in their own country? :
See the colour of the ocean? Compare! Unless you are colour blind, I demand YOU to do something about it. You can start by caring about the environment. NEVER NEVER throw rubbish into the sea. Or on the road. Or into drains. If you do, you are selfish and ignorant. Where do the rubbish go to? Some random jellyfish or turtle may start chewing on the plastic bag because they, unlike us, weren't awarded a brain this size to think. And they'll eventually die. What happens if that is the last few of the same species? Because of you, you stupid ignorant jerk, your child won't know what a _________ turtle looks like in real life. There. Then they only have to imagine, like us imagining how big a dodo bird is, from pictures and descriptions how a ___________ turtle looks like.
Plus. Do you know how bad the economy is right now? Do you know that we earn money from the tourism industry? Do you know how and what other countries do to boost their income from tourists? Do you know almost every city or town I went to in England is a Heritage site? Do you know what they do to take care of the buildings? Laser, maybe? Do you know they use some amount of money to repair and make it better so that more tourists will come in the future? Do you know how clean the beaches and seas are in other countries? Then why would ang mohs want to come and visit Malaysia if the toilets are so dirty, the sea isn't blue, they find rubbish everywhere, the heritage houses are falling apart?
They really have to think of something. Pulau Jerejak can even be converted into something. Like Sentosa. Make full use of what you have! There's so much room for improvement. The people here aren't even friendly. Cashiers don't even smile, they don't even greet you, they treat teenagers like mindless children, they'll probably act arrogant or rude because they think we don't have the power to complain. I say the heck! We are customers too! We have the right!
I shall end this post with a few more pictures I took yesterday from Gurney Drive.
Still proud of Gurney Drive? Batu Feringgi is the same anyway.
